Regional Economic Development Minister Shane Jones and Broadcasting, Communications and Digital Media Minister Kris Faafoi have announced significant additional rural broadband and mobile coverage across New Zealand. This announcement and consequential work will take coverage to 99.8% of the population.
The additional coverage will roll out over the next four years due to the expansion of the Rural Broadband Initiative and the Mobile Black Spots Fund (RBI2/MBSF) programme.
Evolution Networks have been awarded a significant part of this rollout in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.
This announcement provides a welcome Christmas present for those rural communities currently struggling to get fast Internet connectivity.
Areas scheduled for coverage by Evolution Networks include the following areas: Pikowai, Manawahe, Te Teko, Te Mahoe, Waikite Valley, Rerewhakaaitu, Wainui, Waimana, Nukuhou, Ohope, Ohiwa, Waiotahi, Opotiki South, Pakihi, Tirohanga, Opape, Torere, Whitianga Bay, Omaio and Te Kaha.
In addition to the increased coverage, our core network will receive significant upgrades to improve connection speeds and network resilience for our existing customers.
Evolution Networks will be expediting the rollout to cover as many homes as practicable so customers can stream the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
